The East Windsor Academy is a really old school building in East Windsor, Connecticut. Today, it's called the Scantic Academy-East Windsor Historical Society Museum. It was built way back in 1817 as a special private school. Over the years, it was used for many things, like a church hall, apartments, and even a public school. In 1998, this important building was added to the National Register of Historic Places. This means it's recognized as a special place in American history.

About the Academy Building
The East Windsor Academy building is in a part of East Windsor called Scantic village. You can find it on the east side of Scantic Road. It's a two-story building made of brick. It has a pointed roof, which is called a gable roof. The building sits on a strong foundation made of brownstone.
What the Building Looks Like
The front of the building has six sections, called bays. There are doors in the two outer sections. The other sections have windows that can slide up and down, known as sash windows. The sides of the building have triangular parts at the top, called pedimented gables. In the middle of these triangles, there are round windows with fan-like patterns, called fanlights.
The windows are shaped like rectangles. They have brownstone sills at the bottom. Above each window, there are bricks laid upright in a pattern called splayed soldier brick headers. This gives the building a classic and sturdy look.
History of the East Windsor Academy
The East Windsor Academy was built in 1817. It started as a private school where students paid to learn. It stayed a private school for many years, until 1871. At that time, the building was sold to the First Congregational Church. They used it as a hall for church activities.
Famous People Connected to the Academy
Some important people were part of the academy's history. A well-known teacher named Ezra Stiles taught here for a while. One of the academy's most famous students was Junius Morgan. He was the father of J. P. Morgan, who became a very rich and powerful banker.
From School to Museum
In 1896, the building became a school again. Eventually, it turned into a public school for the community. This period of use ended in 1938. After that, the building was changed into apartments where people lived. Later, it was given to the local historical society. Today, the East Windsor Academy is a museum. It helps people learn about the history of East Windsor. The historical society also uses other buildings nearby for more exhibits.
