History of Eastwood Mall
How the Mall Started
The Eastwood Mall first opened its doors in 1969. When it first opened, it had big stores like Sears, Strouss, Montgomery Ward, and Woolworth. It was special because it was the first mall to have both Montgomery Ward and Sears.
Changes and New Stores Over Time
In 1979, a new section was added for the JCPenney store. Later, in 1984, Montgomery Ward closed. Its building was then split into different spaces for other businesses.
After some changes, Dillard's eventually took over some of these spaces in 1994. In the year 2000, a Target store was added to the mall.
Updates and Fun Additions
The Strouss store changed its name to Kaufmann's in 1986, and then to Macy's in 2006. That same year, a food court was built near Macy's, offering many food choices.
In late 2007, something really cool was added: a three-tank aquarium called the Equarium! It's located in the center of the mall. In 2012, construction began on a Residence Inn by Marriott hotel near the Dillard's section.
Recent Changes
On August 24, 2016, the Dillard's store changed into a Dillard's Clearance Center. This means it sells items at lower prices. In late 2016, a new Hampton Inn & Suites hotel also opened nearby.
In 2017, the mall got a fresh look with new renovations to its entrances and inside areas. On October 15, 2018, it was announced that the Sears store would be closing.
In 2019, the Tilt Studio arcade announced it would close. This was to make space for a new Boscov's department store. Boscov's officially announced its plans to open in the former Sears and Tilt Studio areas in 2020.
