Echo Lake is a beautiful lake located in El Dorado County, in eastern California, United States. It's a special kind of lake because it was formed by huge sheets of ice called glaciers a very long time ago. Today, it also acts as a reservoir, holding water for use during the summer months.

Where is Echo Lake Located?

Echo Lake is nestled high up in the Sierra Nevada mountains. It's also found within the El Dorado National Forest, which is a large area of protected land. The lake is quite easy to reach, being only about 2 miles (3.2 km) from Highway 50 at a spot called Echo Summit.

Upper and Lower Echo Lake

Echo Lake is actually made up of two main parts: an Upper lake and a Lower lake. These two sections are connected. The water level of the lake is kept steady during the summer. This is done with a small dam that helps maintain the water at about 7,414 feet (2,260 m) above sea level.
