Where is Ecilda Paullier?
This town is found in the western part of the San José Department. It's easy to get to because it sits right on Route 1, which is a main road in Uruguay. Another important road, Route 11, also meets Route 1 here. Ecilda Paullier is about 101 kilometers (about 63 miles) northwest of Montevideo, the capital city of Uruguay. A small stream called Arroyo Cufré flows about 5 kilometers (about 3 miles) west of the town.
The Story of Ecilda Paullier
Ecilda Paullier has an interesting history. It was first started on May 16, 1883. Back then, it had a different name: "Santa Ecilda."
How the Town Got Its Name
On April 6, 1911, the town's name was officially changed to "Ecilda Paullier." At the same time, it was declared a "Pueblo," which means a village, by a special law (Ley N° 3.748).
Becoming a Town
Later, on November 17, 1964, Ecilda Paullier grew even more important. Its status was changed again, this time to "Villa," which means a town. This happened because of another law (Ley N° 13.299).
