Edward James Dickson, born on July 25, 1987, is a former American football player. He played as a tight end in the National Football League (NFL). Dickson played college football at the University of Oregon. He was chosen by the Baltimore Ravens in the 2010 NFL draft.

Early Life and High School Football
Ed Dickson grew up playing football at Bellflower High School. He was a star player on both offense and defense. He played as a tight end and a defensive end. During his senior year, Dickson was the top player on his team. He led in receiving yards and quarterback sacks. The Los Angeles Times newspaper even named him the Southeast-South Coast Lineman of the Year. He also received other awards, like being named to the First-team All-Suburban League.
College Football Career
Dickson went to the University of Oregon for college. He spent his first year as a "redshirt," which means he practiced but did not play in games. He started as a defensive player but later became a tight end. In 2006, he played in 13 games as a defensive lineman.
In 2009, Dickson was a top player to watch for the Mackey Award. This award goes to the best tight end in the country. On September 27, 2009, he was named the national player of the week. This happened after he caught 11 passes for 148 yards and scored three touchdowns. This amazing game helped his team upset the #6 ranked California Golden Bears. Ed Dickson earned his college degree in Family and Human Services.

Ed Dickson was considered one of the best tight ends available in the 2010 NFL draft.
Baltimore Ravens
The Baltimore Ravens picked Dickson in the third round of the 2010 NFL draft. He was the 70th player chosen overall. The Ravens got this pick in a trade with the Denver Broncos. Dickson signed a three-year contract with the Ravens on July 2, 2010.
In his first year, Dickson was a backup player. He caught 11 passes for 153 yards and scored one touchdown. The next year, in 2011, he became a main starter. He caught five touchdowns that season.
In 2012, the Ravens won the Super Bowl XLVII. Dickson helped the team, often by blocking for other players. In 2013, he was the main starter for most of the season.
Carolina Panthers
On April 10, 2014, Dickson joined the Carolina Panthers. He signed a new contract with them in March 2015. During the 2015 season, the Panthers had an amazing year. They won 15 games, which was a team record.
On February 7, 2016, Dickson played in Super Bowl 50 with the Panthers. However, his team lost to the Denver Broncos in that game. On October 8, 2017, Dickson had a fantastic game. He gained 175 receiving yards as the Panthers beat the Detroit Lions.
Seattle Seahawks
On March 16, 2018, Dickson signed a three-year deal with the Seattle Seahawks. He was placed on an injury list at the start of the 2018 season. He returned to play in October 2018.
In 2019, Dickson was again placed on injured reserve. He practiced with the team later that year and was activated in November. However, he was placed back on injured reserve just two days later. The Seahawks released Dickson on March 31, 2020. He officially announced his retirement from playing football on November 17, 2022.
