Mixed Martial Arts Journey
Starting His Career
Ed Ratcliff began his professional mixed martial arts (MMA) career in 2005. He had a great start, winning his first four fights without any losses. Because of his impressive record, he was signed by the WEC.
Fighting in the WEC
Ed's first fight in the WEC was at WEC 27. He won against Johnny Sampaio in the second round. He won by TKO, which means the referee stopped the fight because of strikes.
After that, he faced Alex Karalexis and won again by TKO. However, Ed had his first professional loss at WEC 33. He lost to Marcus Hicks by a submission move called a guillotine choke.
Ed then bounced back with a win against Phil Cardella. He won this fight by a unanimous decision, meaning all the judges agreed he was the winner.
His last fight in the WEC was against Donald Cerrone at WEC 45 on December 19, 2009. Ed lost this fight by submission. This fight was recognized as the "Fight of the Night" because it was so exciting.
Ed was scheduled to fight Chris Horodecki at WEC 49 in June 2010. However, he had to pull out of the event at the last minute. The fight between Ed Ratcliff and Chris Horodecki eventually happened later that year, on September 30, 2010, at WEC 51. Ed lost this fight by a split decision, which means the judges did not all agree on the winner.
Ed Ratcliff retired from professional fighting in 2010.
