Eddie Filgate was born on September 16, 1915, in County Louth, Ireland. He was one of 11 children in his family. He lived in a small area called Priorstate, in his home village of Louth. This village is near a town called Dundalk. He even lived right next to where his childhood home used to be! He was the last person in his family to live permanently in that village.

Eddie Filgate was a politician for the Fianna Fáil party. He was first chosen to be a TD in the 1977 general election. A general election is when people vote for their representatives in parliament. He represented the Louth area. This area is called a constituency.
He was re-elected twice after that. This means people voted for him again in the 1981 and February 1982 elections. He served as a TD for a total of five years. He decided not to run for election in November 1982.

Eddie Filgate was married to Elish. They had five children together. Elish passed away in 1989.
Eddie lived to be very old. In September 2015, he became a centenarian. This means he reached 100 years old! He passed away on January 19, 2017, when he was 101. He is buried in the graveyard of the Church of the Immaculate Conception in his home village of Louth.
