Eddie S. Glaude Jr. (born September 4, 1968) is an American professor, writer, and commentator. He is a special professor of African American Studies at Princeton University. He led Princeton's Center for African American Studies from 2009 to 2015. He continued in this role from 2015 to 2023 when it became the Department of African American Studies.
He has written five books and helped edit two others. He has also written articles for magazines like Time and online news sites like Huffington Post. You might also see him on TV shows like Morning Joe and Deadline: White House on MSNBC.

Early Life and Education
Eddie Glaude Jr. was born in Moss Point, Mississippi. His father, Eddie Glaude Sr., served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. After the war, he worked for the United States Postal Service.
His mother left school early but worked hard. She was a supervisor for a cleaning team at a shipyard. Eddie Jr. has one brother and one sister. His older sister was born with a severe disability. Their mother has cared for her at home since she was born.
Glaude finished high school when he was 16 years old. In 1989, he earned his first college degree from Morehouse College in Atlanta. He then went on to get a master's degree in African-American studies from Temple University in Philadelphia. Later, he earned his Ph.D. in religion from Princeton University.

Teaching and Leadership
Glaude started his teaching career at Bowdoin College in Brunswick, Maine. There, he was the head of the religion department. Later, he joined the faculty at Princeton University. He is now a distinguished professor of African American Studies at Princeton.
He was the leader of Princeton's Center for African American Studies from 2009 to 2015. From 2015 to 2023, he was the first chairperson of its Department of African American Studies. In 2015, he received an honorary degree from Colgate University. He also serves on the Board of Trustees for Morehouse College.
