Edward Rubin Griffin (born July 15, 1968) is an American stand-up comedian and actor. He is famous for his energetic comedy shows and for acting in movies and TV series.

Many people know him as Eddie Sherman in the TV show Malcolm & Eddie. ..... Comedy Central once named him one of the 100 Greatest Stand-Up Comedians of All Time.

Early Life and First Steps in Comedy

Eddie Griffin was born in Kansas City, Missouri. He was raised by his mother, Doris Thomas. When he was 16, he moved to Compton, California, to live with his cousins. For a short time, he joined the U.S. Navy. After leaving the Navy, he worked different jobs, like dancing and painting houses, to support his family.

Griffin's comedy career started by chance. In 1989, he took a dare to go on stage at a comedy club's open-mic night. He told funny stories about his family and got a standing ovation. This inspired him to become a professional comedian.

Career in Comedy and Movies

Stand-Up Comedy

After his first successful performance, Griffin started doing stand-up comedy all over Los Angeles. He became known for his funny impression of another comedian, Andrew Dice Clay. His act was so popular that Clay hired Griffin to be his opening act.

Griffin became a regular at the famous comedy club, The Comedy Store. He was known for his long and hilarious performances. He has released several popular comedy specials, including You Can Tell 'Em I Said It in 2011 and E-Niggma in 2019.

Acting in Movies and TV

Griffin is also a successful actor. He has appeared in many popular movies. Some of his famous roles include:

  • Orpheus in Scary Movie 3 (2003)
  • Pope Sweet Jesus in Norbit (2007)

From 1996 to 2000, he starred in the TV show Malcolm & Eddie. He also made a memorable appearance on Chappelle's Show. As a voice actor, he played Richard Pryor in the animated series Black Dynamite.

Personal Life

Griffin has been married four times and has eleven children. He is dedicated to his family.

In 2007, Griffin was part of a charity race to promote the movie Redline. While driving a very expensive Ferrari Enzo, he accidentally crashed it into a wall. Luckily, he was not hurt, but the car was badly damaged.

In 2024, Griffin shared his opinion on the U.S. presidential election. He said that he was thinking about voting for Donald Trump.
