Edward James Holland Jr., born on October 30, 1939, is an American singer, songwriter, and music producer. He is the brother of Brian Holland. Eddie, as he's often called, was an early artist for the famous Motown record label. He even had a small hit song called "Jamie." However, he preferred working behind the scenes because he had stage fright.
Eddie was a key member of Holland–Dozier–Holland. This amazing team wrote and produced many hit songs for Motown. They created the unique "Motown Sound." Their songs were sung by famous groups like Martha and the Vandellas, The Supremes, The Four Tops, and The Isley Brothers. Eddie helped write or co-write over 140 hit songs in the US and 80 in the UK! He was mainly the lyricist, meaning he wrote the words for the songs. He also wrote lyrics for songs produced by Norman Whitfield for groups like the Marvelettes and the Temptations.
