Edwin Lawrence "Eddie" Johnson (December 11, 1920 – April 7, 2010) was a talented American musician. He was a tenor saxophonist known for his amazing jazz and blues music.

Early Life

Eddie Johnson was born in Napoleonville, Louisiana. When he was just two years old, his family moved to Chicago, Illinois. As a teenager, Eddie loved to sing. He was part of a vocal group.

He went to Englewood High School. Later, he attended Wilson Junior College. In 1938, Eddie and his band got a special chance. They were asked to play for Kentucky State College. Eddie even received a scholarship there. He studied at the college for eight months.

Music Career

Eddie Johnson became a professional musician. In 1946, he joined a famous band called Cootie Williams and His Orchestra. They made many recordings together. After that, he played with Louis Jordan and His Tympany Five.

Eddie also had the chance to perform with music legends. He played alongside Ella Fitzgerald, a famous singer. He also played with Duke Ellington, a very important jazz bandleader. Later in his career, Eddie released his own albums. He released Indian Summer in 1981. In 1999, he released another album called Love You Madly on Delmark.
