Eddie Steeples is an American actor born on November 25, 1973. He is well-known for his funny roles, especially as the "Rubberband Man" in commercials for OfficeMax. Many people also know him as Darnell Turner (also called "Crab Man") from the popular TV show My Name Is Earl. He also played Cal in the movie Would You Rather and Eddie in The Guest Book.
Life and Career
Eddie Steeples was born in St. Louis, Missouri. He grew up in Spring, Texas, and is the oldest of eight children. When he was in grade school, his friends and family gave him the nickname "Distinguished Dog." This was because he had a dignified look, a bit like a dog.
After finishing Klein Oak High School in 1992, Eddie moved to Santa Cruz, California. There, he started taking acting classes at Cabrillo College. He continued to study acting with the St. Louis Black Repertory Theatre. He also briefly attended Howard University. Eventually, he moved to New York City to pursue his acting dreams.
In New York, Eddie joined an experimental film group called Mo-Freek. He also became part of a hip hop music group called No Surrender. He starred in several films made by Mo-Freek, including Lost in the Bush and Caravan Summer. He also appeared in a short film called Whoa. You might have also seen him as a guest on The Chris Rock Show.
Eddie became famous across the country when he was chosen to play the "Rubberband Man." This character appeared in many commercials for OfficeMax, making him a recognizable face.
From 2005 to 2009, Eddie Steeples played a main role in the NBC comedy series My Name Is Earl. The show first aired on September 20, 2005. In the show, his character was known as Darnell Turner. This was his witness protection name. His real name in the show was Harry Monroe, but most people called him "Crab Man."
