Edeirnion facts for kids
Edeirnion (sometimes spelled Edeyrnion) is a special area in Denbighshire, a county in Wales. Long ago, it was an old Welsh region called a commote within a larger area known as Penllyn. People say it was named after a founder called Edern. It was even mentioned in the Domesday Book, a very old record from England.

A Look Back: Edeirnion's History
Edeirnion was officially part of the Kingdom of Powys, but it often had problems with its neighbor, the Kingdom of Gwynedd. These two Welsh kingdoms often fought over their borders. A prince named Owain Brogyntyn owned Edeirnion.
The area was taken over by Gwynedd when Llywelyn the Great was in charge. But after Llywelyn died in 1240, England made Gwynedd give Edeirnion back to Powys for a short time. Later, Gwynedd took it again in 1267, and then it went back to Powys.
These constant arguments over Edeirnion made it hard for the Welsh kingdoms to work together against Edward I of England. This was one reason why Wales eventually lost its independence to England.
Edeirnion Today
Today, Edeirnion is still a recognized "bro" (which means region) in Denbighshire. You can find it around the town of Corwen and close to the Berwyn Mountains.
Edeirnion as a Local District
The Edeirnion Rural District was a local government area created in 1894. It was part of Merionethshire county. This district included six different parishes and covered a large area of about 47,460 acres (192 square kilometers).
The Edeirnion Rural District existed until 1974. After that, it became part of the Glyndŵr District in Clwyd. In 1901, about 5,132 people lived there, but by 1961, the population had dropped to 3,925. Edeirnion was the only part of Merionethshire that didn't become part of the Meirionnydd District in Gwynedd. In 1996, Edeirnion officially became part of Denbighshire.
