Growing Up and Starting Out
Edem Mortotsi was born in Accra, Ghana. When he was young, his family moved to Canada. While he was in high school, Edem played soccer for a team called KC Trojans. He played with them from when he was 12 until he was 18 years old. After high school, he went to the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology for university, where he also played soccer.
Playing Professional Soccer
Edem Mortotsi played for several soccer clubs during his career. He was known as a midfielder, which is a player who helps both defend and attack on the field.
Playing for FC Edmonton
Edem started his professional journey with FC Edmonton. He first played for their junior team. Then, in 2013, he signed a contract to play for the main team. His first game was on April 6, 2013, against the Fort Lauderdale Strikers. He joined the game in the 79th minute, helping his team get a 1–1 tie.
Time with Other Teams
In 2017, Edem played for another team in the Alberta Major Soccer League called Edmonton Victoria. He played in ten games and scored two goals for them. Later that year, he joined a team called Edmonton Green & Gold. He played one game and scored one goal in 2017. He continued to play for Edmonton Green & Gold in 2018, appearing in five more games.
Back to FC Edmonton
On January 31, 2019, Edem Mortotsi returned to play for FC Edmonton. He played in eighteen league games that season. He signed with the team again for the 2020 season. However, in August 2020, he got an injury that kept him from playing for the rest of the season.
Becoming a Coach
After his playing career, Edem Mortotsi decided to become a coach. On January 27, 2021, he joined Young Africans, a team in the Tanzanian Premier League. He became their head fitness coach, helping the players stay strong and healthy for their games.
