Édgar Ángel Vivar Villanueva, born on December 28, 1948, is a famous actor and comedian from Mexico. He is most famous for playing characters like Señor Barriga and his son Ñoño in the TV show El Chavo del Ocho. He also played El Botija in Los Caquitos and Chespirito.

Life and Career of Édgar Vivar
Édgar Vivar began his acting journey in 1964. He started as a theater actor. He traveled around the United States with his plays. This gave him a lot of experience.
Joining Chespirito's Shows
In 1970, the famous writer and actor Chespirito was looking for someone. He needed a person to play Señor Barriga and Ñoño. These characters were for his new TV show, El Chavo del Ocho. Vivar was chosen for these roles.
Both El Chavo del Ocho and Chespirito became huge hits. They were popular all over the world. This made Vivar well-known outside of Mexico. He toured many places, including Latin America, Spain, and the United States. He also tried acting in a telenovela, which is a type of TV soap opera.
Health and Weight Loss Journey
After the Chespirito shows ended in 1980, Vivar faced some health challenges. His weight caused problems with his heart. He even took a short break from the show. His character, El Botija, was said to have gone to a weight-loss clinic.
In 1992, he took another break from the show. He went to a clinic to get help with his weight. He lost a lot of weight, which helped him stay healthy. Even after the shows stopped making new episodes, Vivar kept touring. The Chespirito shows were still very popular as re-runs on television.
In 2008, Vivar had gastric bypass surgery in Colombia. This surgery helped him lose about 165 pounds. After this, he became a strong supporter of healthy living. He encourages others to overcome obesity.
New Roles and Voice Acting
After losing weight, Vivar decided to stop playing his Chespirito characters. He felt they no longer fit him. However, he did lend his voice to Señor Barriga and Ñoño. This was for an episode of the cartoon version, El Chavo. He was the only original cast member to do this.
Vivar also appeared in movies. In 2006, he was in the film Bandidas. He played a bank manager. He also acted in an Argentine telenovela called Amarte Así. This show was very successful in South America, Spain, and the US.
In 2007, he had a role in El Orfanato. This movie was produced by Guillermo del Toro and filmed in Spain. Vivar also used his voice for animated movies. He voiced Auguste Gusteau in Disney-Pixar's Ratatouille. He also voiced Dug in Up (2009).
