Édgar Ángel Vivar Villanueva is a famous Mexican actor and comedian. He was born on December 28, 1948. He is best known for playing popular characters like Señor Barriga and his son Ñoño in the TV show El Chavo del Ocho. He also played El Botija in Los Caquitos and Chespirito.

Life and Career of Édgar Vivar
Early Acting Days
Édgar Vivar started his acting journey in 1964. He began as a theater actor, performing in many plays. He even traveled around the United States with some of his shows. This early experience helped him become a skilled actor.
Becoming a TV Star
In 1970, a famous writer and actor named Chespirito was looking for someone special. He needed a strong person to play two characters: Señor Barriga and Ñoño. These roles were for his new TV show, El Chavo del Ocho. Vivar was chosen for the job.
Both El Chavo del Ocho and Chespirito became huge hits around the world. This made Vivar famous not just in Mexico, but also across Latin America, Spain, and the United States. He even tried acting in a telenovela, which is a type of TV soap opera.
Health Journey and Changes
For a while, Vivar faced some health challenges because of his weight. After the shorter Chespirito shows ended in 1980, he had some heart problems. He even took a short break from the show in 1992 to get help at a weight-loss clinic. He lost a lot of weight, which was very important for his health.
In 2008, Vivar had a special surgery called gastric bypass surgery in Colombia. After this, he lost about 165 pounds! Since then, he has become a strong supporter of healthy living. He encourages others to overcome obesity.
New Roles and Voice Acting
Even after his weight loss, Vivar continued to act. In 2006, he appeared in the movie Bandidas as a bank manager. He also starred in an Argentine telenovela called Amarte Así, which was very popular.
In 2007, he had a role in the Spanish film El Orfanato. Vivar also used his voice for animated movies. He voiced Auguste Gusteau in Disney-Pixar's Ratatouille and Dug in Up (2009) for the Latin American versions.
After his weight loss, Vivar decided to stop playing his old Chespirito characters in live-action. He felt they no longer fit him. However, he did return to voice Señor Barriga and Ñoño for an episode of the animated show El Chavo. He was the only original cast member to do this.
