Edimilson Fernandes Ribeiro (born 15 April 1996) is a professional football player from Switzerland. He plays as a defensive midfielder or defender. Currently, he plays for the French club Brest on loan from Bundesliga club Mainz 05. He also plays for the Switzerland national team.

Early Days and Club Journey

Edimilson started his football career in Switzerland. He joined the youth team of FC Sion and quickly showed his potential.

Playing for Sion

Fernandes began his journey with FC Sion as a young player. He made his first big league game appearance on 1 June 2013. This was in the Swiss Super League against FC Zürich. He even scored his first goal for the team in March 2015. Edimilson played a key role when Sion reached the knockout stage of the Europa League in 2015-2016. He played 65 games for Sion's main team.

Moving to West Ham United

In August 2016, Edimilson moved to England to play for West Ham United. He signed a four-year contract. His first game for West Ham was in September 2016. A month later, he scored his first goal for the club in a big win against Chelsea in the EFL Cup. His manager, Slaven Bilić, was very impressed.

Loan to Fiorentina

In August 2018, Fernandes went to Italy to play for Fiorentina. This was a one-year loan deal, which means he played for them temporarily before returning to his main club.

Joining Mainz 05

After his time in England and Italy, Edimilson joined the German club Mainz 05 in June 2019. He signed a four-year contract. He played his first game for Mainz in August 2019. He scored his first goal for Mainz in the 2019-2020 season, helping his team win against Werder Bremen.

Loans to Young Boys and Brest
