Edith Thacher Hurd (born September 14, 1910 – died January 25, 1997) was an American author who wrote many books for children. She published 70 books during her life. Her husband, Clement Hurd, illustrated fifty of these books.

About Edith Thacher Hurd
Edith Thacher was born in Kansas City, Missouri, in 1910. Her parents were John Hamilton Thacher and Edith Gilman Thacher. She had an older brother, John Jr., and a younger brother, Nicholas. Nicholas later became an important diplomat, serving as the United States Ambassador to Saudi Arabia.
Edith went to Radcliffe College and the Bank Street College of Education. There, she met two other famous people in children's literature: Clement Hurd and Margaret Wise Brown. She taught at the Dalton School in New York for four years. During World War II, she worked in San Francisco. Her job was to analyze news for the United States Office of War Information. This office helped share important information during the war.
Edith Thacher married Clement Hurd in 1939. They worked together on over fifty books. They also had a son named John Thacher Hurd, who also became a writer and illustrator. Edith also wrote books with Margaret Wise Brown. For these books, they used the pen name "Juniper Sage."
Edith Thacher Hurd passed away on January 25, 1997, in Walnut Creek, California. She was 86 years old.
The work of Edith, her husband Clement, and their son Thacher was shown in several museums. This special art show was called "From Goodnight Moon to Art Dog: The World of Clement, Edith and Thacher Hurd."
