Edna Ruth Scott Parker (born April 20, 1893 – died November 26, 2008) was an American woman who became famous for living a very long life. She was known as the oldest living person in the world from August 13, 2007, until her death in November 2008.

Edna Parker's Early Life

Edna was born on a farm in Morgan County, Indiana. She went to Franklin College and earned a teaching certificate. For a few years, she worked as a teacher.

Marriage and Family Life

In 1913, Edna married Earl Parker, who was her next-door neighbor. They had two sons, Clifford and Earl Jr. Sadly, both of her sons passed away before she did. Earl, her husband, died in 1939.

Living a Long Life

After her husband's death, Edna lived by herself on a farm. She stayed there until she was 100 years old. Then, she moved in with one of her sons.

Moving to a Retirement Home

One winter night, Edna was alone at home. Her son and his wife had gone to a basketball game. When they came back, they found her outside in the snow. She was not feeling well. Her family was very worried, but she got better. After this, her family decided it was best for her to move to a nursing home.

Edna lived at Heritage House Convalescent Center. This was a retirement home in Shelbyville, Indiana. She stayed in good health there and could still walk.

Meeting Another Supercentenarian

In April 2007, when Edna was 114 years old, she met another very old person. This was 113-year-old Bertha Fry. Bertha was the second-oldest person in Indiana at that time. Their meeting set a record for the highest total age for two people meeting.

Edna's 115th Birthday

Edna Parker turned 115 on April 20, 2008. She had two birthday parties to celebrate this amazing milestone. The first party was open to the public and held on April 18. The second party was a private one, held on her actual birthday, April 20.

A Special Birthday Wish

At both parties, 115 colorful balloons floated in the air. This was because Edna loved to see balloons. This was her last birthday. She passed away on November 26, 2008, at the age of 115 years and 220 days.
