Eduardo Andrés Barril Villalobos, born on July 7, 1941, in Puerto Montt, Chile, is a famous Chilean actor and theater director. He has worked in many plays, TV shows, and movies throughout his long career.

Eduardo Barril's Acting Journey
Early Life and Training
Eduardo Barril was born in Puerto Montt. He was one of seven children in his family.
He finished theater school at the University of Chile in 1963. After graduating, he joined the ITUCH (Theater Institute of the University of Chile). There, he became a full-time actor. He performed in many famous plays. These included "La remolienda" by Alejandro Sieveking and "Romeo and Juliet" by William Shakespeare. He also acted in "Waiting for Godot" by Samuel Beckett. Besides acting, he taught acting classes. He also helped with the first TV plays on the University of Chile's experimental television.
Working in Panama and Italy
In 1966, Eduardo traveled to Panama. For eight years, he worked on children's TV shows. He also did cultural work for the University of Panama. In 1973, he won the National Mola de Oro Award. He also earned a degree in Audiovisual Communication from the University of Panama.
In 1974, he went to Italy. There, he studied TV directing at RAI (Italian Radio and Television).
Return to Chile and New Roles
Eduardo returned to Chile at the end of 1974. He taught acting classes at the University of Chile. He also wrote poetry, short stories, and scripts for theater and TV. In 1975, he received an award for his story "Osvaldo the boxer."
As a director, he put on children's plays. He also directed "Requiem for a sunflower" in 1978. He appeared in popular TV shows like Martes 13 and Sábado Gigante on Canal 13.
Career in Telenovelas
Eduardo Barril started acting in telenovelas (soap operas) in 1982. His first role was in Casagrande on Channel 13. In 1985, after acting in Los títeres, he moved to Televisión Nacional de Chile. He worked there for over 20 years. He was part of many popular shows. These included Mi nombre es Lara (1987) and Bellas y audaces (1988). He also appeared in Romané (2000) and Pampa Ilusión (2001). His last TV series was Graduados in 2013.
Theater Performances
As a theater actor, Eduardo performed in many plays. He was in "The Bedrooms" and "Becket." He also acted in "King Lear" by Shakespeare. For the Theater of the Catholic University, he performed in "Waiting for Godot." He also acted in "Joan of Arc." For the Chilean National Theater, he was in "Fantasmas Borrachos." In 1999, he toured Spain and Sweden with the play "Play with Fire." In 2003, he acted in "Provincia designated" and "El Hijo."
In June 2009, he starred in the play PANA. This play was for the Theater of the Catholic University of Chile. During this play, he worked again with actors Ramón Núñez Villarroel and Arnaldo Berríos. They had acted together before in "Waiting for Godot" and "King Lear."
Awards and Recognition
In 2018, Eduardo Barril received a special tribute. The Actors Union of Chile honored his long career.
In 2023, he received a Lifetime Achievement Award. This was at the Puerto Montt International Theater Festival. He was honored for his work in the play “Historia de amor para un alma viejo.”
