Eduardo Andrés Barril Villalobos (born July 7, 1941, in Puerto Montt) is a well-known Chilean actor and theater director. He has had a long and successful career in plays, television shows, and movies.

Early Life and Training
Eduardo Barril was born in Puerto Montt, a city in southern Chile. He was the fourth of seven children in his family.
He studied acting at the Theater School of the University of Chile. He graduated in 1963. After graduating, he joined the Theater Institute of the University of Chile (ITUCH). There, he acted in many famous plays. These included "La remolienda" and "Romeo and Juliet." He also taught acting classes and body language workshops.
Working in Panama and Italy
In 1966, Eduardo traveled to Panama. He worked there for eight years. He appeared on children's and variety TV shows. He also traveled around Panama to share culture through the University of Panama. In 1973, he won the National Mola de Oro Award. He also became a specialist in audiovisual communication at the University of Panama.
In 1974, he went to Italy. He studied TV directing at RAI (Italian Radio and Television). When he returned to Chile later that year, he continued to teach acting. He also started writing. He wrote poetry, short stories, and scripts for theater and TV. In 1975, he received an award for his story "Osvaldo the boxer."
Career in Theater and Television
As a director, Eduardo Barril put on children's plays and comedy shows. He directed "Monsters in the fifth symphony" and "Matapasión." In 1978, he directed "Requiem for a sunflower."
He also appeared in popular TV shows in Chile. These included musicals on Martes 13 and comedy on Sábado Gigante. He was also part of TELEDUC and El Professor Rossa on Canal 13.
His first role in a telenovela (a type of TV soap opera) was in 1982. It was in Casagrande on Channel 13. In 1985, after acting in Los títeres, he moved to Televisión Nacional de Chile (TVN). He stayed there for over 20 years. He acted in many popular telenovelas. Some of these were Mi nombre es Lara (1987), Romané (2000), and Pampa Ilusión (2001). After a short return to Channel 13, he stopped working in television for a while. His last TV series was Graduados on Chilevisión in 2013.
Eduardo Barril has also continued to act in many theater productions. He performed in "King Lear" by Shakespeare and "Waiting for Godot." In 2009, he acted in the play "PANA" for the Theater of the Catholic University of Chile. During this play, he worked again with actors Ramón Núñez Villarroel and Arnaldo Berríos. They had acted together before in "Waiting for Godot" and "King Lear."
Awards and Recognition
In 2018, the Actors Union of Chile honored Eduardo Barril for his long career.
In 2023, he received a Lifetime Achievement Award. This was at the Puerto Montt International Theater Festival. He received it for his work in the play “Historia de amor para un alma viejo.”
