About Edward Island

Edward Island is a peaceful island in Lake Superior. It is part of the Thunder Bay District in Ontario. The island is about 6 kilometres (3.7 mi) from Porphyry Island Provincial Park. It is also about 12 km (7.5 mi) from Sleeping Giant Provincial Park. The island is located 16 km (9.9 mi) east of Silver Islet, Ontario. It sits about 42 km (26 mi) east of the city of Thunder Bay.

A Special Nature Reserve

The entire island is a protected area. It covers about 600-hectare (2.3 sq mi) of land. This means it is an Edward Island Provincial Park or nature reserve. Because it is a nature reserve, it helps protect the natural environment. This includes the plants, trees, and any wildlife that live on the island.
