Edward Irving Ludwig (born October 7, 1899 – died August 20, 1982) was an American film director and writer. He was born in what is now Ukraine, which was part of the Russian Empire at the time. He moved to the United States in 1911 and became an American citizen in 1932.
Edward Ludwig directed nearly 100 movies and television shows between 1921 and 1963. Sometimes, he used other names like Edward I. Luddy or Charles Fuhr for his work.
He also helped direct popular TV Western series. He was one of the directors for John Payne's NBC Western show The Restless Gun, which aired from 1957 to 1959. Ludwig and Erle C. Kenton were the main directors for the CBS TV series The Texan (1958-1960). This show starred Rory Calhoun as a hero who traveled around helping people in need, much like a "Robin Hood of the West."
