Edward Nevill was an important English nobleman who lived from about 1550 to 1622. He held the title of Baron Bergavenny. Edward Nevill was born around 1550. His father was Edward Nevill, 7th Baron Bergavenny. When his father passed away, Edward was next in line to inherit the title of Baron Bergavenny. This title was very old and important.
A Family Dispute Over the Title
Even though Edward was his father's son, his right to the title was challenged. His cousin, Mary, Lady Fane, also wanted the title. She believed she was the rightful heir through her father, the 6th Baron. This disagreement over who should be the Baron went on for many years. It was a big legal battle within the family.
Edward Nevill's Family Life
Edward Nevill married Rachel Lennard. She was the daughter of John Lennard and Elizabeth Harman. Edward and Rachel had many children together. Their children helped continue the long history of the Nevill family.
