Edward Richard Shaw (1855–1903) was an important American educator and writer. He was a professor and dean at New York University. He is best known for writing and editing many books, especially schoolbooks for children.

Edward Richard Shaw was born in 1855 in Bellport, New York. This town is part of Long Island. He went to Lafayette College for his first degree. Later, he earned his Ph.D. from New York University.

Before joining the university, Mr. Shaw worked as a principal. He led schools in Sayville, New York, Greenport, Suffolk County, New York, and Yonkers. After these roles, he became a Professor of Pedagogy at New York University. Pedagogy is the study of teaching methods. By the time he passed away in 1903, he was the Dean of the university.
