Edward Spring facts for kids
Edward Spring (born June 11, 1808 – died April 29, 1880) was an Irish church leader, known for helping people in need. He was a clergyman in the Church of Ireland, which is a Christian church in Ireland. He gave many talks and sermons about how to help people who were struggling, especially during difficult times.
Edward Spring was born in a place called The Point in Killarney, Ireland. His family, the Springs, owned a lot of land in County Kerry. He studied at Trinity College, Dublin, a famous university, and finished his studies in 1833.
Church Career
Edward Spring became a deacon in the church in 1834 and then a priest a year later. He worked in several different churches across Ireland, moving to new places as he gained more experience. He started as a Curate, which is a junior priest, and eventually became a Rector and Vicar, which are more senior roles in the church. By 1871, he was the Rector of Magourney and Kilcolman.
Helping People During the Famine
Edward Spring became very well known in the 1840s because he spoke out passionately about helping poor people and making sure everyone had enough food. This was especially important during and after the Great Famine, which happened in Ireland from 1845 to 1852. The Famine was a terrible time when many people suffered from hunger and disease.
Because of his important work, Edward Spring was asked to give lectures all over the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland. He talked about how the Church was trying to help people during this disaster. Many of his talks were later printed as books and shared widely, helping to spread his message of support for those in need.

Edward Spring married Arabella Matilda Rudkin on December 19, 1844. They had four children together:

Edward Spring passed away in 1880 at the age of 72.
