Early Life and Education
Edward T. Donnelly was born in London, England, on August 22, 1871. His father, Edward C. Donnelly, was from New York City. Edward went to several colleges. He studied at Manhattan College and Columbia University. He also attended New York Law School. There, he earned a degree in law.
Joining the Army
Donnelly started his military career in 1898. He became a captain in the Eighth New York Infantry. This was during the Spanish–American War. After this, he joined the 43rd U.S. Volunteer Infantry. He served as a first lieutenant. In 1901, he became a first lieutenant for artillery.
Rising Through the Ranks
Donnelly continued his military training. In 1905, he graduated from a special army school. This school was for cavalry and field artillery. He was promoted to Captain in 1907. He then served in different artillery groups. These included the First, Sixth, Third, and Fifth Field Artillery regiments.
Key Military Campaigns
Donnelly took part in several important conflicts. He fought in the Spanish–American War. He also served in the Philippine–American War. Later, he joined the Pancho Villa Expedition. He steadily rose in rank. On April 12, 1918, he became a brigadier general. This is a high-ranking officer.
World War I Service
During World War I, Donnelly served in France. He was there from July 1918 to May 1919. He commanded the 164th Field Artillery Brigade. This brigade was part of the 89th Infantry Division. For his service, he received the Croix de Guerre. This is a special military award from France.

Edward T. Donnelly passed away on February 8, 1929.
