Ejutla de Crespo is a city and a municipality in the central valleys of the Mexican state of Oaxaca. It is part of the Ejutla District. This district is located in the southern part of the Central Valleys Region.
The name "Ejutla" comes from the Nahuatl language. It means "place of abundant green beans." The second part, "Crespo," honors Father Manuel Sabino Crespo. He was a brave fighter during the Mexican War of Independence. He fought alongside Morelos and was executed on October 19, 1815. To remember him, the state government changed the name from Villa de Ejutla to Heroica Ciudad de Ejutla de Crespo on December 11, 1885. "Heroica Ciudad" means "Heroic City."
History of Ejutla
The town of Ejutla was founded a very long time ago, in the year 524. It was started by the Zapotecs, an ancient group of people from this region. Their leader at the time was named Meneyadia.
