Early Life
El Chojin was born in Torrejón de Ardoz, a town near Madrid, Spain. His father was from Equatorial Guinea, and his mother was from Spain.
Music Career
El Chojin got his stage name from a character in a Japanese animation. When he first started rapping, he was part of a group called WFN, which stood for "Wild for da Night." Later, he joined another group called 995 and released four albums with them.
Solo Albums and Messages
As a solo artist, El Chojin has released many albums. Some of his album titles, like Cuando Hay Obstáculos... (When There Are Obstacles...) and ...Jamás Intentes Negarlo (...Never Try to Deny It), even spell out his name, C.H.O.J.I.N.!
In 2004, he released a free demo called Rap por placer (Rap for Pleasure). Then, in 2005, his album 8jin came out. This album talked about important topics like being professional in rap and standing up against unfair treatment. The cover for 8jin was chosen from a contest where fans sent in their ideas.
..... This album featured different music styles, including guitars, pianos, and even a gospel choir. The next year, he released Aún rap por placer (Still, Rap For Pleasure), which was also available for free download.
In 2009, El Chojin released a big album with 30 songs called Cosas que pasan, que no pasan y que deberían pasar (Things that Happen, Don't Happen, and Should Happen). Many different artists helped him with this album, including other rappers, singers, and even a comedian.
Important Themes in His Music
El Chojin is well-known for the strong social messages in his songs. He avoids using bad words in his music. His raps often talk about being peaceful, fighting racism, and warning about the dangers of harmful substances.
One of the main topics he often sings about is how immigrants are sometimes treated unfairly. Even though he was born in Spain, he understands the challenges they face because of his own experiences. Songs like "Yo no soy de esos" (I'm Not One of Those), "Mami, el negro está rabioso" (Mommy, the Black Guy is Angry), and "Cara sucia" (Dirty Face) show how he has faced discrimination because of his skin color.
He also has a famous song called "Lola" that encourages safe choices, and it was even used in a health campaign in Barcelona. Amnesty International has used his songs in their campaigns to raise awareness about immigration and to speak out against unfair treatment.
Beyond Music
Besides writing songs, El Chojin has also written poetry and articles. In 2007, he wrote and starred in a play called El alma de Alexander Oboe (The Soul of Alexander Oboe). He has also helped create music for movies and even made what he calls the first "rap opera" in Spanish, called Rimas para todos los públicos (Rhymes for All Audiences).
Since 2010, El Chojin has appeared on a TV show called Noticias 2 every Wednesday. On the show, he performs a rap song that summarizes the week's news.
World Record for Rapping
On December 23, 2008, El Chojin tried to break a world record for rapping. He successfully set his own record by rapping 921 syllables in one minute! This means he rapped about 15 syllables every second in his song "Vo-ca-li-za." This record for rapping the most syllables in 60 seconds has not been beaten by anyone rapping in English or Spanish.
