About El Coahuilón
El Coahuilón has a long ridge. It stretches for about 22 kilometers. The ridge runs from east to west. This is similar to other mountains in the area.
Wildfires and Recovery
Sadly, large wildfires happened on the mountain. One was in May 1975. Another was in May 1998. These fires damaged a lot of the forest. But people have worked hard to replant trees. These efforts are helping the forest grow back. It will take many years for the forest to fully recover.
Plants and Trees
The northern side of El Coahuilón is covered with forests. These are called coniferous forests. They have trees like pines and firs. You can also find oaks and other evergreen trees and shrubs. Some specific trees found here are Mexican White Pine (Pinus ayacahuite), Hartweg's Pine (Pinus hartwegii), Mexican Pinyon (Pinus cembroides), and Potosi Pinyon (Pinus culminicola).
The southern side of the mountain is different. It has dry, desert-like shrubs. These plants are tough and can live in very dry places.
