In 1907, a large company bought the newspaper. This company was first called Sociedad Editorial de España. Later, it became Sociedad Editora Universal. This company also owned other major newspapers in Spain. These included El Imparcial and Heraldo de Madrid.
El Defensor's Influence

Later Years and the Republic
For its last twelve years, a famous writer and journalist led El Defensor de Granada. His name was Constantino Ruiz Carnero. He was also involved in politics. He even became the mayor of Granada for a short time.
