Exploring the El Masnou Nautical Museum
This museum helps you discover how important the sea has been to the town of El Masnou throughout history. The main exhibition is set up in different sections, each telling a part of this amazing story.
What You'll See Inside
You can explore areas like La mar blava (The blue sea), which shows the beauty of the ocean. L'antiguitat (Antiquity) takes you back in time to ancient periods. El naixement d'un poble (The birth of a town) explains how El Masnou began.
There's also a section called Les embarcacions del Masnou (The boats of El Masnou). Here, you can learn about the different kinds of boats used by the town's people. La navegació (Sailing) teaches you about how sailors navigated the seas. El comerç (Trade) shows how goods were bought and sold using ships. Finally, L'herència marinera (The seafaring heritage) highlights the lasting impact of the sea on the town's culture.
In 2006, a new area opened with a video presentation called Fem memòria. El Masnou del segle XX (We remember. El Masnou in the 20th century). This video helps you remember what life was like in El Masnou during the 20th century.
Amazing Collections and Artifacts
The museum has many interesting items. Some are archaeological finds from very old times, like prehistoric, Iberian, Roman, and Medieval times. These items show how people lived long ago.
Other parts of the collection are all about the sea and sailing. You can see old sailing instruments that sailors used to find their way. There's also an art gallery filled with paintings that have a sea theme. The museum also has a huge collection of nautical charts, which are like maps for the sea. Plus, there's a special library just for books about the ocean and ships.
The Jordi Pericot Kinetic Art Space
A really unique part of the museum is the Jordi Pericot Kinetic Art Space. This is the only permanent collection of kinetic art in all of Spain! Kinetic art is a type of art that moves or seems to move.
This special space was created because the artist Jordi Pericot i Canaleta gave many of his artworks to El Masnou. It opened in December 2011. It's a modern area where you can see many of Jordi Pericot's works. They are organized into six different sections, showing how his art changed and grew over his career. It's a fascinating place to see art that comes alive!
