History of El Molar
Early Settlements
Long ago, there were two very old villages where El Molar is now. The oldest one was from the 6th or 7th century.
The town we see today started in the 13th century. This was after the area was taken back from the Moors (people from North Africa).
Medieval Times
In the Middle Ages, El Molar was part of a special area called the Barony of Entença.
In 1156, a leader named Ramon Berenguer IV gave the land to the Poblet Monastery. Because of this, El Molar was connected to the nearby town of Garcia. This connection lasted until the 1800s.
20th Century Events
El Molar was bombed by planes during the Spanish Civil War. These planes were part of the Condor Legion.
An old galena mine near the town was used as a hospital. This happened during a big battle called the Battle of the Ebro.
Important Buildings
The local church in El Molar is very old. It was built in the 1700s. This church is named after Saint Roch (Sant Roc).
