People of El Negrito
In 2013, a census counted the population of El Negrito municipality. There were 45,363 people living there at that time. The people of El Negrito come from diverse backgrounds.
Most of the people, about 95%, are Mestizo. This means they have a mix of European and Indigenous heritage. About 3% of the population is White.
A smaller group, about 1%, are Indigenous. These include groups like the Tolupan, Lenca, Chʼortiʼ, and Nahua people. There are also some Black or Afro-Honduran residents.
