The El Paso Museum of Art (EPMA) is a fun place to explore art in downtown El Paso, Texas. It first opened its doors in 1959. This museum is special because it's the only art museum like it for a very long distance! Around 100,000 people visit it each year. A new building for the museum was finished in 1998. Besides showing off amazing art, the museum also offers art classes, movie nights, talks, concerts, and storytelling. It's a great spot for people in West Texas, Southern New Mexico, and Ciudad Juarez, Mexico, to learn and enjoy art.

Art Collections at EPMA

The El Paso Museum of Art has many different types of art. These collections help us learn about art from different times and places.

European Art

The museum is famous for its special collection of 57 artworks from the Samuel H. Kress collection. These pieces are from Europe and were made between the 12th and 18th centuries. You can see paintings by famous artists like Bernardo Bellotto, Canaletto, Artemisia Gentileschi, Lorenzo Lotto, and Anthony van Dyck. It's like a trip back in time to see art from hundreds of years ago!

North American Art

The museum also has a great collection of art from North America. This includes works by important artists such as Frank Duveneck, Childe Hassam, Frederic Remington, and Gilbert Stuart. These artworks show different styles and stories from American history.

Southwestern and Mexican Art

EPMA has a large and growing collection of art from the Southwestern United States and Mexico. Many of these artists are from Texas, New Mexico, and the border region.
