El Pescadero is a small village in the Mexican state of Baja California Sur. It's part of the La Paz municipality.

This village is located on Federal Highway 19. You can find it about 8 kilometers (5 miles) south of Todos Santos. It's also about an hour's drive north of Cabo San Lucas. In 2020, a census showed that 2,245 people lived in El Pescadero.

Climate and Farming

The weather in El Pescadero is greatly affected by the Pacific Ocean. The ocean helps keep temperatures mild all year long. To the east, the village is next to the Sierra de la Laguna mountains.

In the farming areas, called huertas, you'll see roads lined with palm trees. Farms grow alongside homes. It's common to see fields of chili peppers and basil plants. Most of these crops are grown to be sent to other places.

Farming does well here because there's plenty of water underground. This water flows down from the mountains. Air from the Pacific Ocean moves up the Sierra de la Laguna mountains. It meets warmer air from the Gulf of California. This mix often causes rainstorms in the mountains during summer and fall.

Surfing Spots

The Pacific coast near El Pescadero has great places to surf. Two of the best surf spots are Los Cerritos and San Pedrito. Both beaches have "right breaks," meaning the waves break to the right as you face the shore.

Los Cerritos is a good spot for surfers who are just starting or are still learning. San Pedrito is better for advanced surfers. This is because it has a rocky bottom and strong ocean currents.

Chili and Strawberry Festival

Every March, El Pescadero hosts a special event. It's called the Chili and Strawberry Festival. This festival celebrates and promotes the local farming of these crops.

At the festival, you can buy organic fruits, vegetables, and plants. There's also food to try. Farmers show off their products and tools. The festival also includes a dance and the crowning of a queen. A "cabalgante" is part of the fun too. This is a parade of horses and riders that travels from Todos Santos to the festival in El Pescadero.
