El Recuenco is a small town, also called a municipality, located in Spain. It is part of the province of Guadalajara in the region of Castile-La Mancha. This town is nestled between several mountain areas, including those of Cuenca, Alcarria, and the Alto Tajo.

Geography

El Recuenco is built on a high, flat area known as a plateau. The town's average height is about 1,200 meters (around 3,900 feet) above sea level. The highest point in the area reaches 1,302 meters (about 4,270 feet) and is found in the northern part of the town.

Because of its high location, certain types of plants grow well here. You can find many pine and oak trees. Smaller plants like rosemary and juniper also thrive in this environment.

Old Structures and Fossils

Not many old buildings or ruins are left in El Recuenco. This is partly because the land was used for farming for many centuries. However, some simple ruins are hidden in the hills. These are the remains of old huts and places where farm animals were kept. They show how people lived and farmed here a very long time ago, possibly around the 3rd and 4th centuries. These structures were left empty in the mid-1900s.

Scientists have also discovered very old animal and plant remains, called fossils, in this region. Some of these fossils date back to the Plio-Pleistocene era, which was millions of years ago.

Population

The number of people living in El Recuenco is counted regularly through a survey called a census. According to the 2010 census by the INE, El Recuenco had 97 inhabitants. This was a small increase of five people compared to the 2004 census.

However, the population has generally decreased over time. For example, in the 2001 census, there were 114 inhabitants living in the municipality.
