Elbert Sevier Martin (born around 1829, died September 3, 1876) was an important person in the 1800s. He was a Congressman and also ran a newspaper in Virginia. He was the brother of John Preston Martin.

Early Career and Politics
After college, Elbert Martin worked in business in Jonesville. He was involved in "mercantile pursuits," which means he bought and sold goods.
In 1858, he decided to run for a political office. He was elected as an Independent Democrat to the United States House of Representatives. This is a part of the United States government where elected officials make laws for the country.
He served in Congress from 1859 to 1861. When he tried to be re-elected in 1860, he was not successful.
