History of Jonesville
Jonesville used to be a busy center for local businesses in the late 1800s and early 1900s. However, like many towns in the Appalachian area, its economy slowly declined. This happened as the "coal boom," a time when coal mining was very popular, started to slow down in the second half of the 1900s.
By the end of the century, many of the business buildings in downtown Jonesville were empty or not fully used. Most of the town's remaining businesses are now located on the west side. For example, Jonesville Drug, one of the oldest stores downtown, moved to the west end in 2004.
Two important historical places in Jonesville are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. These are the Dickinson-Milbourn House and the Jonesville Methodist Campground.
