The Warren's Robber Frog (scientific name: Eleutherodactylus warreni) is a special kind of frog. It belongs to a group of frogs called Eleutherodactylidae. This small frog is found only in one specific place in the world.
Where the Warren's Robber Frog Lives
This unique frog lives only on Tortuga Island. This island is located off the northwestern coast of Haiti. Being found only in one place means it is endemic to Tortuga Island.
Its Special Home
The Warren's Robber Frog lives in a dry kind of forest. This forest is called a xeric hardwood forest. It is found at an elevation of about 400 meters (about 1,300 feet) above the sea.
This frog is a terrestrial animal. This means it lives on the ground, not in water or trees. You can often find it on rocks or hidden among fallen leaves on the forest floor.
Why This Frog Needs Help
Sadly, the Warren's Robber Frog is in danger. Its biggest threat is habitat loss. This means the places where it lives are disappearing. People are cutting down trees for wood (logging) and clearing land for farming (agriculture). This destroys the frog's natural home, making it harder for them to survive.
