Eli Eduardo de Gortari (born April 28, 1918, in Mexico City, Mexico – died July 29, 1991) was a very smart Mexican thinker. He was a logician, a philosopher of science, and an engineer. This means he studied how we think, how science works, and how to design and build things.

Eli de Gortari's Life

Eli de Gortari started studying at the Engineering School of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) in 1938. He wanted to become an engineer, and he achieved that goal in just two years!

He cared a lot about helping people. Because of this, he decided to study sanitation engineering. This field focuses on public health and making sure communities have clean water and good waste systems. Even while studying engineering, he kept learning about mathematics and philosophy.

By 1948, he became a professor who taught about the philosophy of science. In 1949, he earned a master's degree in philosophy. He also wrote an important paper called "The Science of Logic."
