Elisabeth Hamilton was born in Marion, Indiana. Her father, Burr Hamilton, was a firefighter. Her mother was Etta Hale Hamilton. In 1928, she married Harold T. Friermood. He was also an author, known for The YMCA Guide to Adult Fitness. Elisabeth and Harold even wrote a book together. It was their autobiography, called Frier and Elisabeth, published in 1979.
Elisabeth's Writing Journey
Elisabeth Friermood worked as a children's librarian. She helped kids find books at the Marion Public Library and the Dayton Public Library. Her experiences there gave her ideas for many of the characters in her stories.
Stories from History
Elisabeth Friermood was very careful with her research. Her historical fiction books were set in different times and places. Many of her stories took place in the Midwest during the 1800s. They showed what pioneer life was like.
She also wrote about important historical events. These included the Spanish–American War and the Underground Railroad. The Underground Railroad was a secret network that helped enslaved people find freedom. Two of her books were also about the Wabash River.
Elisabeth also wrote articles and short stories. These appeared in magazines like Horn Book Magazine and Story Parade. Her books were published by Doubleday.
