How Geronimo Stilton Was Created
Elisabetta Dami has a big heart and a special connection with children. She started volunteering at a children's hospital. While helping the sick children, she decided to write fun adventure stories for them.
Bringing Joy to Children
Elisabetta wanted to create stories that would make the children laugh and feel better. She invented a clumsy mouse character named Geronimo Stilton. He would go on all sorts of funny and exciting adventures. The children loved these tales, and they quickly became very popular.
Elisabetta shared her inspiration:
For a while I worked as a volunteer in a hospital, and it was there, almost by chance, that I invented Geronimo Stilton … It was at the time when Patch Adams taught the world that children need to laugh to get better. So I started to make up funny stories in which the protagonist was a clumsy mouse called Geronimo Stilton. He would get involved in all sorts of entertaining adventures, full of funny events and twists in the plot, that children found really compelling.
The Geronimo Stilton books became a huge success! They have been translated into 49 different languages. More than 180 million copies of his adventures have been sold all over the world.
