Elizabeth West was once a suburb located in the northern part of Adelaide, South Australia. It was part of an area managed by the City of Playford. This suburb was created in 1955. It was designed to be a supporting area for the main Elizabeth town centre.

What Was Elizabeth West?

Elizabeth West was a suburb that no longer exists today. It was established in the mid-1950s. This was a time when many new suburbs were being built around Adelaide. The idea was to create a "satellite" town. This means a town that is close to a bigger city but has its own services.

How Elizabeth West Changed Over Time

Over the years, the boundaries of Elizabeth West changed. In 1993, the northern part of Elizabeth West was combined with another suburb. This suburb was called Elizabeth Field. Together, these areas formed a brand new suburb named Davoren Park.

Later, in 2011, the rest of Elizabeth West also changed. The remaining part of the suburb was joined with some land from Penfield. This created a completely new suburb. It was named Edinburgh North. So, Elizabeth West officially stopped existing as a separate suburb on October 27, 2011.

Life and Industry in Elizabeth West

Elizabeth West had different types of areas within it. The northern part of the suburb was mostly for homes. This is where people lived. It was located north of a road called Womma Road.

The southern part of Elizabeth West was different. This area was mainly used for factories and businesses. This industrial area is now part of the Edinburgh North suburb.

Getting Around Elizabeth West

Even though Elizabeth West was a new suburb, it had good transport links. People could easily travel by train. There were two railway stations nearby. These were the Womma station and the Broadmeadows station. Both of these stations were on the Gawler railway line. This line connected the suburb to Adelaide and other areas.
