Elk Mound is a small village in Dunn County, Wisconsin, United States. It's a part of the Eau Claire metropolitan area. In 2020, about 985 people lived there. The village is surrounded by the Town of Elk Mound. A famous person named Carl Gerbschmidt is known to have lived here.

Village History
Elk Mound got its name from a nearby natural mound. A post office opened in the area in 1870. The village itself was officially planned and settled in 1871.
Geography and Location
Elk Mound is located in the beautiful Chippewa Valley. It sits between the cities of Eau Claire, Menomonie, and Chippewa Falls. The village covers an area of about 2.29 square miles (5.90 square kilometers), and all of it is land.

Population in 2010
In 2010, there were 878 people living in Elk Mound. They lived in 334 households, and 225 of these were families. The village had about 383 people per square mile.
Most residents (90.8%) were White. There were also people of African American, Native American, and Asian backgrounds. About 2.5% of the population identified as Hispanic or Latino.
Many households (41.6%) had children under 18. The average age in the village was about 30.9 years old. About 30.6% of the people were under 18.
Local Economy
For a long time, farming was the main job in the Elk Mound area. But now, many small businesses have started up in the community. People can also find more industries, businesses, and services in the nearby cities. New housing areas are also growing both inside and outside the village.
Elk Mound is also known as the place where people send their Menards rebate coupons!
Education in Elk Mound
The Elk Mound school district is right in the village. It has about 928 students across three schools:
- The elementary school teaches students from preschool to 4th grade.
- The middle school is for 5th through 8th graders.
- Elk Mound High School serves students from 9th to 12th grade.
More students have been joining the elementary school recently. In 2009, the community voted to approve important upgrades to all three school buildings. These changes added much-needed classrooms and special areas for the growing student population.
Community Churches
Elk Mound is home to several churches. These churches represent different types of Christian faiths.
Historic Memorial Park
Mound Hill Park has a special "castle" structure. This park is dedicated to the rural letter carriers of Dunn County who have passed away. It is believed to be the only monument of its kind in America.
Tornado Events
In September 2019, the Elk Mound area was hit by a strong tornado. This tornado was an EF3, which means it caused significant damage to many homes and buildings in the village. Luckily, no one was reported to have died during this event. The area experienced another tornado the next year, but it was much weaker, an EF0, causing less damage.
