Elliot Lamonte Perry was born on March 28, 1969. He is an American former professional basketball player.
Elliot Perry was a point guard, which is a player who leads the team's offense. He was 6 feet tall and played college basketball at Memphis State University, now known as the University of Memphis. In the 1991 NBA draft, the Los Angeles Clippers picked him as the 37th player overall.
He played ten games for the Clippers during the 1991-92 NBA season. After that, he joined the Charlotte Hornets for the rest of the season. He then spent two years playing in the Continental Basketball Association (CBA), which was a minor basketball league.
Elliot Perry returned to the NBA with the Phoenix Suns. In the 1994–95 NBA season, he was almost named the NBA's Most Improved Player. This award goes to the player who has shown the most progress in their game.
He finished his NBA career in 2002 with the Memphis Grizzlies, his hometown team. He played only two games for them after signing a short, 10-day contract. In those two games, he scored 11 points.

His Nickname: "Socks"
Elliot Perry was known as "Socks" during his basketball career. He got this nickname because he always wore high, long socks. He wore them both in college and when he played in the NBA.
In college, Elliot Perry was a very quick player. He was good at changing his shot in the air to make defenders foul him. This made him a tough player to guard. He often had to carry his college team because they didn't have many other strong players.
During his last year of college, Penny Hardaway, another famous player, was supposed to join his team. However, Penny Hardaway had trouble with his school grades. Because of this, he couldn't play that year, and the two never got to play together.
Life After Basketball
After his playing career, Elliot Perry stayed involved with basketball. He joined Hank McDowell, another former NBA player and Memphis State alumni. They became the radio commentators for the Memphis Grizzlies starting in the 2006-07 NBA season. They would talk about the games as they happened.
Today, Elliot Perry lives in Germantown, TN, which is a town near Memphis. He is married and has a child. He still enjoys playing basketball with other former players and kids in his neighborhood. He also helps out as a mentor with the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Memphis. This club helps young people grow and learn. He is also a member of the Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity.
Elliot Perry is also a part-owner of the Memphis Grizzlies. This means he owns a small share of the team.
