Elliot Lamonte Perry (born March 28, 1969) is a former professional basketball player from the United States. He played as a point guard during his career.

Elliot Perry is known by the nickname "Socks." He earned this name because he always wore high, long socks when he played basketball in college and the NBA.

Elliot Perry's Early Life and College Career

Elliot Perry was born in Memphis, Tennessee. He grew up loving basketball. He went to the University of Memphis, which was called Memphis State University back then. He played for the Memphis Tigers from 1987 to 1991.

During his college years, Elliot was a very fast and tricky player. He was great at changing his shot in mid-air. This skill often helped him get fouls from his opponents. He was so good that he often had to carry his team. His jersey number, 34, was later retired by the Memphis Tigers. This is a huge honor for a college player.

Elliot Perry's Professional Basketball Journey

Elliot Perry was chosen by the Los Angeles Clippers in the 1991 NBA draft. He was the 37th player picked overall. He played a few games for the Clippers before joining the Charlotte Hornets in the same season.

After playing in the NBA, Elliot spent two years in the Continental Basketball Association (CBA). This league was a stepping stone for many players. He then returned to the NBA with the Phoenix Suns.

NBA Success with the Phoenix Suns

The 1994-95 season was a big one for Elliot Perry. While playing for the Phoenix Suns, he was voted runner-up for the NBA Most Improved Player Award. This award goes to the player who shows the most improvement from one season to the next.

He continued to play for the Suns before moving to the Milwaukee Bucks. Later, he played for the New Jersey Nets and the Orlando Magic.

Returning Home to the Memphis Grizzlies

Elliot Perry finished his NBA career in 2002. He signed a 10-day contract with his hometown team, the Memphis Grizzlies. He played two games for them, scoring 11 points. This was a special way to end his playing days, back in Memphis.

Elliot Perry After Basketball

After retiring from playing, Elliot Perry stayed involved with basketball. He became a radio commentator for the Memphis Grizzlies. He worked alongside another former NBA player and Memphis State alumni, Hank McDowell. They started broadcasting together in the 2006-07 NBA season.

Today, Elliot Perry lives in Germantown, TN, a suburb of Memphis. He is married and has a child. He still enjoys playing basketball with friends and kids in his neighborhood. He is also a mentor with the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Memphis. This organization helps young people grow and learn. Elliot Perry is also a part-owner of the Memphis Grizzlies team.
