Elmer L. Brandell (born September 3, 1894 – died March 4, 1958) was an American baseball player. He was a talented catcher who played for several teams. These included the All Nations team and the Michigan Wolverines baseball team at the University of Michigan. By 1917, he even became the captain of the Michigan Wolverines baseball team.

His coach, Carl Lundgren, once said that Elmer was "one of the most valuable men" he had ever coached. He could play well in almost any position on the field.

Elmer Brandell's Baseball Journey

Elmer Brandell was a very skilled baseball player. During his time at the University of Michigan, a famous coach named Branch Rickey noticed his talent. People said Elmer was one of the best players Michigan had seen in a long time. He was known for his great hitting and fielding skills.

After playing for the Wolverines, Elmer joined the Newark Bears. This was a minor league team. He played for them for at least a year. Soon after, many baseball players, including Elmer, went to serve in World War I. Some records show that Elmer was still listed as the Michigan team captain during 1917, even though he was also playing professionally.

After serving in the war, Elmer came back to play baseball again. He even played for a team in Philadelphia for a short time. However, in April 1919, he decided to stop playing baseball for good. He wanted to return to his hometown of Anoka, Minnesota, and start a new business.

But Elmer's baseball story wasn't quite over. In the mid-1920s, he found himself back on the field. He played catcher for his long-time friend, John Donaldson. They had played together on the All Nations team before. In 1925, they both played for a team called the Fishermen in Bertha, Minnesota.
