Elmira is a small, unincorporated community located in Fulton County, in the U.S. state of Ohio. Being "unincorporated" means it's not officially a city or town with its own local government, but it's still a recognized place where people live.

Elmira's Past: A Glimpse into History

Elmira has a bit of history tied to its early days. A post office was first opened here in 1839. About eleven years later, this post office moved to a nearby place called Burlington. Interestingly, even after moving, the post office kept the name Elmira for a while!

The Wabash Cannonball Trail

Today, Elmira is known as a starting point, or "trailhead," for the Wabash Cannonball Trail. This trail is a cool example of how old things can be made new again! It used to be a railway line for the Wabash Railroad, but now it's been changed into a path for walking, running, and biking. It's called a "rail trail" because it follows the path where trains once traveled.

Just west of Elmira, along this trail, you'll find a long railroad bridge. This bridge is 210 feet long and crosses over the Tiffin River. It's a neat spot to see the river and imagine the trains that once used to rumble across it.
