Els Pontets is an old water system, called an aqueduct, found in Crevillent, a town in Alicante, Spain. It was part of a special underground water channel system known as a qanat. This system brought water from the Sierra de Crevillente mountains to the people living there during the time of Al-Andalus.

How Els Pontets Was Built

The main structure of Els Pontets was built a very long time ago, around the 13th century. This was when the area was part of Al-Andalus, a Muslim-ruled territory in medieval Spain. However, the stone arches you see today were added much later, in the early 1900s.

How it Worked

Els Pontets helped move water from a special underground mine or well. This water was essential for the people living in Crevillent. It kept working for many years, helping the community get the water they needed.

Its Later Years and Repair

Els Pontets continued to supply water until the middle of the 20th century. After that, the mine where the water came from was no longer used, and the aqueduct stopped working. For a while, Els Pontets was in poor condition and needed a lot of repair.

Bringing it Back to Life

In 2006, important work began to fix Els Pontets and improve the area around it. About 150,000 euros were spent to make it look good and safe again. Now, it stands as a historical landmark, showing how people used to get water centuries ago.
