Elizabeth "Els" Veder-Smit (born August 29, 1921 – died August 26, 2020) was an important Dutch politician. She was a member of the People's Party for Freedom and Democracy (VVD). This political party believes in freedom and personal responsibility. Els Veder-Smit also worked as a director for organizations that do not aim to make a profit.

Early Life and Education
Els Veder-Smit was born Elizabeth Smit on August 29, 1921. Her birthplace was Kinderdijk, a village in the Netherlands famous for its windmills. She grew up and went to school in the Netherlands.
After finishing her early education, Els went to Utrecht University. This is a well-known university in the city of Utrecht. She studied law there. She earned both her Bachelor of Laws and Master of Laws degrees. These degrees prepared her for a career in public service.
Her Political Journey
Els Veder-Smit began her political career in 1950. She joined the People's Party for Freedom and Democracy (VVD). This party is one of the main political groups in the Netherlands.
Member of Parliament
