Elsa Benítez Yáñez (born December 8, 1977) is a famous Mexican model and TV host. Many people know her from her appearances in the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue. She even appeared on the cover of this magazine in 2001.

Becoming a Top Model

Elsa Benítez started her modeling career after winning a contest in Costa Rica in 1995. Soon, she was working for fashion companies in Mexico. Later, she moved to the United States, where she became more recognized. This success led her to Europe.

In 1996, she got a big chance. She was chosen to appear in Vogue Italia, a major fashion magazine. She was even on the cover for three months in a row!

Magazine Covers and Fame

After joining the Elite modeling agency, Elsa appeared on the covers of many famous magazines. These included Vogue, Elle, Glamour, Mademoiselle, Harper's Bazaar, and Marie Claire.

She graced the covers of Vogue in different countries like Mexico, Greece, and Germany. She also appeared in several issues of Marie Claire. All this led to an offer from the US magazine Sports Illustrated. This offer helped her become known all over the world.

Walking the Runway

In 1999, Elsa Benítez was featured in the Pirelli calendar. This special calendar showed women from different decades. Elsa represented the "groovy" style of the 1970s. In 2002, she appeared in a music video for "Love to See You Cry" by singer Enrique Iglesias.

From 2009 to 2012, Elsa Benítez became a TV host. She presented the show Mexico's Next Top Model.

Elsa's Life Outside Modeling

In 1999, Elsa married former basketball player Rony Seikaly. They had a daughter named Mila in 2003. They later divorced in 2005. Elsa currently lives in Santa Monica, California.

A Close Call

In 2004, Elsa shared a story about a scary experience. She was supposed to be on TWA Flight 800 on July 17, 1996. However, she had a very strong bad feeling before boarding. She started crying and couldn't stop. She decided to change her ticket and took a different flight just 10 minutes after the first one. This experience made her realize how precious life is.
