Elya Baskin, born Ilya Zalmanovich Baskin on August 11, 1950, is a talented actor from Latvia who also became an American citizen. He is known for playing many different kinds of characters in movies and TV shows.
He first became well-known for his role in the 1984 movie Moscow on the Hudson. In this film, he played Anatoly, the best friend of the character played by Robin Williams. Elya Baskin is also famous for his role as Mr. Ditkovich, Peter Parker's landlord, in the movies Spider-Man 2 (2004) and Spider-Man 3 (2007). He also appeared as cosmonaut Max Brailovsky in the 1984 film 2010: The Year We Make Contact.

Early Life and Training
Elya Baskin was born into a Jewish family in Riga, which was part of the Soviet Union at the time. His parents were Frieda and Zalman Baskin. He went to the Theatre and Variety Arts College in Moscow. While studying there, he won an award at the Moscow Comedy Theatre for young actors.
Moving to America
Elya Baskin moved to the United States in 1976. Since then, he has often played characters from Eastern European countries in his acting roles.
